Update the Android operating system version

To update your Android operating system version follow these steps (we recommend backing up data such as contacts and photos, updating your software should not affect your personal data but there is no guarantee):

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select About device (if not present tap on System).
  3. Choose System update.
  4. Tap on Check for update.

The instructions on how to find updates and/or the names of the options you need to tap on may vary from device to device but should be similar to the instructions we have provided. If you cannot find the option to update on your device then we recommend that you contact your device's manufacturer for the exact instructions.

In some cases, the manufacturer of the phone makes an update and the phone company sends it to all phones of that type. To get this type of update, all you have to do is wait until you see the notification on your phone and then follow the instructions. To find out if an update is planned for your phone, you can check the website of the manufacturer or maybe your phone companies website. For instance, if you have a Samsung device you can use the Smart Switch computer program from Samsung's website to check for and install updates.

Your device may require a Wi-Fi connection to search for an update and downloading updates over Wi-Fi is recommended as the file size can be large.
